Move to iOS

Apple just released its Move to iOS app for Android. This is an app that you can download from the Google Play store that will make it easier for Android users to migrate to iOS.

During the initial iOS 9 setup, users are given the option of how they want to proceed with setup, and migrating from Android is one of those options. If a user selects Move Data from Android, they will then be pointed to the Move to iOS app on their Android device for easy migration.

In this post, I’ll walk you through the full migration process, which involves pairing the two devices together in order to transfer Android user data to your iOS device.

Video tutorial

Step 1: During the initial iOS setup process, choose Move Data from Android.

Step 5: Enter the code on your Android device to allow the devices to talk to each other.

Step 6: You will see a preparing message, followed by a screen that lets you select the data that you wish to migrate. You can select things like photos, bookmarks, and Google account. Once you check the options that you wish to migrate, tap Next and the transfer will begin.

Still no full screen in safari, interface is laggy and stock apps crash, multitasking freezes when opened. I wish I was on iOS 8.4
Now we’ll have to wait for iOS 9.1-9.2 for the iPad Air to work properly :/
(just a warning sing for anyone out there reading)

You can still Downgrade apple has not stopped downgrading yet there is hope

  • Mr.Coolfreak

Wow, just read the app reviews. 90 percent of the reviews are android trolls, who are just giving it one star lol

  • Oryan Hàim

    What about all your contacts?
And can you delete photos after the transfer complete ??

    • Mike Colacone Saal

Of course you can and if your contacts are tied to your google account they’ll sync

How about if I want move to ios 8.4?

    • Jarvis

I believe you can backup in iTunes once migrate. Downgrade your iPhone to 8.4, as it is still signing at the moment, then restore the data. Not sure if it works that way, but that’s my best guess

      • HamptonWalley

Unfortunately not, Itunes not willing restore to older ios which from I made backup.

  • nyangejr

how do they communicate? WiFi or Bluetooth?

    • Mike Colacone Saal

Seems to be Bluetooth since Jeff didnt connect to wifi

      • Jonathan

I saw it said LTE through T-Mobile though. :/

if i use this app, can I still fetch my iCloud backup… with the android stuff on top of that? or is it the one or the other?

    • Mike Colacone Saal

Assume Apple is under the assumption you don’t have an iCloud backup since you’re moving. But if you want to restore from iCloud you can use the geeksquad app from android and apple and transfer photos contacts and videos from one system to the other.

is there any other way to get my sms from android to iOS?

      • Mike Colacone Saal

Not to my knowledge. We can’t even do it with our system from Best Buy mobile.

When I am setting up the new iPhone 6 (iOS 9…) there is no option to Move Data from Android (just the other 3 options). I have erased the iPhone and restarted setup twice and I never see this option. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • braredd

I went through the whole process, but both devices lose wifi and the android says it can’t connect. Anything I’m doing wrong?

    • Nuno Torres

Same problem here. The message “can’t connect to device” pops up and it crashes.

  • Raghu Chhabra

Everytime i am trying to transfer when i put the code wi fi signal disappears from my ios device and transferring process freezes, please help, Thanks

  • Frank

It only go 37% and said “Unable to migrate” then I half STARTED OVER AGAIN! It happen 4 times already WTF!?

    • Lizette M. Sweezer Morris

I get to 46% and then I get the same error message. It’s frustrating!
I just had to do it all manually eventually.

  • Adhish Chimmalgi

If I just missed the option at start of configuration of my iphone where can I find it later?

    • Lizette M. Sweezer Morris

The only time you can do it is at the very beginning of set up. If you missed it, you have to erase your phone and start over. I learned the hard way too unfortunately.

Anyone understand why the transfer won’t complete?? I just got my new iphone 7 today and I have been trying to transfer my droid data to my new iphone but it keeps freezing at 41%… It won’t go any further from there and I left the screen as it is for 20 minutes and it is still stuck at 41%…. any suggestions? I already tried to restart both phones!

  • Joon

Mine still says unable to migrate is there any solution for this? I’ve tried going to airplane mode as others suggested but i still get the same result. Help!
