Live Photos iPhone 6s

Live Photos was one of the main features introduced with iOS 9 and iPhone 6s. Some might see it as a gimmicky feature, others like me might see it as a great way to inject a little more life into photos.

The process of taking a Live Photo is pretty simple. It’s on by default, and you have nothing to do. Simply shoot a photo like you would normally do, and you’re done. Your device will capture an extra 1.5 second of video before and after the photo was taken, stitching it together and turning a frozen moment into a lively one.

But what if you want to turn a Live Photo into a still one? As with most things iOS, it’s actually pretty simple.

How to change a Live Photo into a normal photo

Step 1: Go to the Live Photo you want to turn into a still photo.

Step 2: Tap the Edit at the bottom of the screen.

Step 3: Tap the blue Live Photo icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Blue means it’s a Live Photo. Once it turns white, it means it is a normal photo.

Step 4: Tap Done, in the lower right corner to save the image.

Your Live Photo is now just another still image in your Camera roll. If you decide you want it back as a Live Photo, you can always edit the photo and select the Revert option.

I was looking for a way to select a different frame of the live photo to keep as the still image, like burst photos.. if you guys find a way to do this, please share with us, THANKS!!!

    • #Jailbreak :p

      • igobythisname

        oh, it’s #jailbreak4life!! no doubt.. ;-1 …but there’s not jailbreak for the iPhone 6SPlus or iOS 9.0.1 for that matter… *patiently waiting…*

    • Bobdole

i m pretty sure it will never be possible even with a jailbreak.
It seems that the photo you take is 12mp but the frames (small videos before and after) for the live photo are of a much lower res

I found A way but you won’t like it, because of imperfect it is. Simply take a screenshot while the live photo is playing. Yup, it’s like hitting the lotto to get that one perfect frame. But until a Jailbreak is released, this is the best option I could fine.

  • So you aren’t really turning it into a normal photo. You’re just making it’s preview photo the only one viewable.
    That kinda sucks

    • Alright, if you think that way, then when you edit a photo on your iPhone, you’re not really editing it because you can always revert back.

To their point though the main reason people would want to turn it to a normal photo would be to free up some space, in which this case it doesn’t do that.

      • EduHH

I think what he meant is you don’t geht any benefit out of this (not even saving space)

There is a icon in camera? I saw in keynote a yellow circle in THE top. Maybe that?

What I want to know is how to make Live Photos look as clean as the pre installed Live Photos. And how to make them go in reverse when you let go, just like the pre installed fishes.

    • Nate McKelvie

That’s what I want to know as well

  • WDETFitness

I want to know how to take an mov/gif and make a live photo.

  • Alim

Is live photo working on older (like iPhone 5) devices?

    • Troy

it only works on iPhone 6S and 6S Plus

    • Jarvis

You can view live photo on any devices with iOS 9 when someone with iPhone 6s or 6s Plus share it with you. However, only 6s and 6s Plus can take live photo

  • Angela Bradley

To the people wanting to choose a different frame: “Live Photos Plus” on the iPhone app store does this!!!
edit: to clarify it lets you choose any of the frames in the Live Photo and save them as their own still image

  • IRwin Tay

im using a new iphone6s but when i take a live photo its still d same… any answers pls 🙁

  • JeezHchrist

Would be better if the person on the receiving end didn’t have to do anything
to view, especially if sent by text message
