Shaek to Undo iPhone

“Shake to Undo”, a motion-sensing feature that lets you undo and redo typing and other actions on your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, used to be very popular back when iOS gained copy and paste commands. It was, in many ways, the iPhone equivalent to the Command (⌘) – Z keystroke on Mac.

A remnant of the past, its origins trace back to the iPod nano’s “Shake to Shuffle” feature for shuffling songs by shaking the device from side to side.

But not everyone is fond of physically waving their iPhone around to undo their involuntary actions, especially if you tend to shake your device by accident. Besides, Shake to Undo makes little sense on iPads, especially with iOS’ dedicated Undo and Redo buttons on the iPad keyboard.

In this post, we’ll show you how to disable Shake to Undo with a few taps.

How to turn ‘Shake to Undo’ off

Step 1: Open Settings on your iOS device.

Step 2: Go to the General → Accessibility → Shake to Undo section.

Turn off Shake to Undo on iPhone or iPad

Step 3: Set the Shake to Undo switch located under the Interaction heading to the OFF position.

Turn off Shake to Undo

“If you tend to shake your iPhone by accident, you can disable Shake to Undo to prevent the Undo alert from appearing,” reads the description.

For those wondering, Shake to Undo requires a functioning accelerometer sensor to detect physical motion of the device.

    Nice tip Christian!
This reminded me of how annoying I found this back in the day (especially shake to shuffle). I have certainly noticed how Apple has improved the movement processing throughout the years. I have not felt the need to turn off the feature since the iPhone 5.

PS: Making an Activator action that takes a picture every time you shake is a fun way to surpise friends with jailbroken iPhones.

I got weird looks on the train when shaking to undo and never used the feature again in public

That’s weird, I still have “Shake to shuffle” in iOS 8.3 Settings.

I have never accidentally shaken to undo. I was unaware that it was “a thing”.

I actually use this feature. A few times I was writing an email and deleting a big block of text. Shook it to undo it.
